Questions, answered.

How do I install mods on a Minecraft server?+

On SpawnFort: pick a mod on this page and click create — the server boots with the mod and its required dependencies installed. On an existing server, the Mods tab searches Modrinth and installs in one click. Self-hosting instead means installing a loader, matching mod versions by hand and dropping jars over SFTP.

What's the difference between mods and plugins?+

Mods (Fabric/Forge/NeoForge) change the game itself and usually must be installed on every player's client too. Plugins (Paper) run only on the server, so vanilla clients can join normally. Both install from the panel here — the directory notes which each project is.

How much RAM does a modded Minecraft server need?+

One or two light mods run fine on 3 GB. A typical modded server with 5–15 mods wants 4 GB, and heavy tech mods or big player counts push toward 6–8 GB. Each pick on this page carries its own honest recommendation.

Do my friends need to install the mods too?+

For content mods (new blocks, items, mobs) — yes, everyone needs the same mods and loader on their client. Server-side mods like Lithium, Chunky and Terralith need nothing installed client-side, which is why they're the easiest upgrades.

Can I add more mods after creating the server?+

Yes — the Mods tab in your dashboard searches all of Modrinth and installs with dependencies resolved. Removed mods clean up after themselves on the next restart.

Which mod loader should I pick?+

Fabric for lightweight modern mods and performance, NeoForge for the big content mods (Create, Mekanism, Ars Nouveau), Paper when you want plugins and vanilla clients. Every pick on this page pre-selects the right one for you.
